- Course Overview
- The ‘Linux Command Line Skills Assessment’ objectively validates existing proficiency in Linux command-line and Bash. Not instructional, it’s a rigorous diagnostic tool benchmarking expertise across critical domains. Through hands-on, real-world challenges in a controlled environment for 15 students, it measures practical application in file management, process control, networking, and basic scripting. It confirms robust skills while identifying subtle gaps.
- Requirements / Prerequisites
- Solid Linux CLI Foundation: Participants need significant hands-on, intermediate-to-advanced experience. Comfort in navigating filesystems, managing permissions, and interacting with core system components solely via the terminal is essential.
- Proficiency in Core Utilities: Mandatory competence with standard shell utilities is expected: text processing (
grep, sed, awk), file manipulation (find, xargs), and process management (ps,kill, jobs). Effective tool combination is key. - Basic Scripting & Problem-Solving: Familiarity with Bash scripting fundamentals (variables, conditionals, loops) is a prerequisite. Candidates must demonstrate strong independent problem-solving and troubleshooting under timed assessment conditions.
- Skills Covered / Tools Used
- File Management & Navigation: Assesses mastery of
ls,cd,pwd, mkdir,rm,cp,mv,find, tar, chmod, chown, understanding filesystem hierarchy and permissions. - Process Control & Monitoring: Evaluates command use for process management (
ps,top, kill,bg,fg,jobs) and monitoring system resources effectively. - Networking & Remote Access: Hands-on tasks involve network diagnostics (
ping,ip a/r,netstat), secure remote access (ssh, scp), and web interactions (wget,curl,dig/nslookup). - Bash Scripting & Text Processing: Tests practical Bash scripting (variables, conditionals, loops, I/O redirection) and advanced text manipulation using
cat,head,tail,sort,uniq,sed,awk,trfor complex data handling.
- File Management & Navigation: Assesses mastery of
